Today I wanted to create one of the most popular and read blog posts that I put out, and that is an advice post. I always get tons of positive feedback whenever I do one of these, and while I was coming up with content for upcoming blog posts, I realized I haven't done one of these posts in a while, so I wanted to get one up for you guys! Now as a disclaimer, I am just a 21 year old girl who loves fashion and likes to share advice when she can. I'm no expert and these are just tips that I've picked up while pursuing a life and career in fashion. I hope these are useful to you, and if you happen to find them silly, well it's okay, I have plenty of other content that you might like better, so just click on the right to find more posts from the past! Remember that you guys can subscribe to my blog and get updates sent to your email whenever I upload a new post, by simply entering your email on the right above my blog archive. You won't receive any spam or anything, and you will only get email updates when I post a new blog post! Thank you for continuing to follow my blog and for your continued support throughout the past 3 years. I love you all!

1. Thrift stores are your best friends
I can't tell you the countless amount of times that I have found treasures while thrifting. Everything from a Free People blazer to cashmere and wool J.Crew sweaters. Last year I was a broke college student thrifting amazing pieces to incorporate into my wardrobe. Now I am way more financially stable, but I still choose to shop at thrift stores because no matter the amount of money you may have in your pocket, you are still going to find some of the best pieces in your wardrobe at the thrift store. Seriously. It's a bit of a project to thrift and it's definitely a time consuming thing to go through every rack inside a thrift store, but it is so worth it when you find a brand new cashmere J.Crew sweater for $5.
2. Don't spend a lot of money on trendy pieces
I'm so happy I didn't splurge on a J.Crew excursion vest last year because this year they're not so trendy, and if you didn't get a chance to buy one of those fancy vests last year, fear not, because you can find a similar one at TJMaxx or Marshall's this year for a fraction of the price. Trendy pieces are not worth investing your money in. You'll regret it as soon as the season is over and the trend has passed.
3. Venture outside of your normal stomping (shopping) grounds
Lately, I have found so many amazing (and super inexpensive) pieces to add to my wardrobe simply by shopping at places I never really go into (hello, Old Navy!) I follow quite a lot of fashion bloggers and fashionistas on Snapchat and Pinterest, who are constantly posting about all the great finds at stores that I don't really shop at, and when I venture on over, I always find super cute stuff that I never really would've thought I would find there. I post some of my finds over on my Insta (@makefashionyourown) and Snapchat (@cynthiap18) so make sure you head over and follow me :)
4. Dress in what makes you happy
If you like that tutu skirt, wear it. If you are in love with that red furry vest, rock it. Like those spiky shoes, wear them every day. Fashion is all about having fun and wearing what you like (and love), so don't be afraid to go outside the box and try new things. If it makes you happy, who really cares about what other people think, right?
That's all of my advice for tonight, let me know if you would like these to be a monthly thing in the comments below!
